Bahd Bevahd 'Hand-In-Hand' textile arts

A dress with a torn seam… pants too small for their owner…a stained blouse…scraps that were once a curtain…all these and many other rejected, unwanted items are salvaged and transformed into something new. New life emerges from their persistent colors, like a small voice crying "Don't abandon me when I'm old and worn out!"

Bahd Bevahd products are handmade, homemade works of art, crafted from reused textiles. Stories and parables are patched together and artistically framed in stark opposition to the consumer culture which so carelessly throws away the materials from which they are created. These pieces are a return journey, a retreat from the plague of commercialism. They are created with the intention of teaching that even the smallest and humblest may become rich and unique.

On the artist and the artistic process

Sarah Weil is a former resident of Tel Aviv, where she owned a graphic arts studio. For the past ten years she has lived with her partner in a small home, which the two women built by hand in a village in the Upper Galilee. After several years of activity working to create an ecological-community, she has recently focused her attention on personal creativity as expressed through Bahd bevahd.

Bahd bevahd products include quilted bedspreads and wall hangings, pillows, bags and more. All are made with reused cloth and sewed by hand. They are beautifully appliqued with magical images of natural scenes and wild animals. The designs are the fruit of the artist's imagination, and appeal to the hearts of adults and children alike. They are decorative and educational, encouraging the creative reuse of materials.
